HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu prosecutors on Thursday filed charges against four police officers alleging a cover-up in connection with a high-speed car chase that they say resulted in a crash and a traumatic brain injury to the driver of another car.Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm said the charges are the result of an exhaustive investigation and review of the evidence.“These charges demonstrate that it is important to seek justice even when those believed to have committed crimes are the very people we expect to uphold the law,” Alm said in a statement. Prosecutors charged Officer Joshua Nahulu with a felony, saying he drove a vehicle involved in a collision resulting in serious bodily injury and failed to stop at the scene. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The prosecutor’s office charged Officers Erik Smith, Jake Bartolome and Robert Lewis each with one felony count for hindering prosecution and another felony count for conspiracy. As WGN TV celebrates 75 years, we’re looking back with a series of stories on the history and the memories. The Chicago Bulls of the 1990s were a worldwide phenomenon, a source of civic pride, and the highest-rated show on WGN-TV, at the time. “You want to talk about 'Must See TV?,'” said Bob Vorwald, who oversaw WGN Sports as the director of production. “You just had to watch WGN to see Michael and the Bulls.”It was the pinnacle of a partnership between the Bulls and WGN that spanned over parts of six decades. WGN broadcasted Bulls games beginning in the team’s expansion season in 1966. Jack Brickhouse served as the play-by-play announcer. In 1979, Bob Costas, who became a household name as the host of NBC’s Olympics coverage, and an announcer who handled network baseball games, Super Bowls, and the NBA Finals (including calling Michael Jordan’s final shot as a Bulls player), was the play-by-play for the Bulls on WGN.“WGN and the Bulls had sort of an on-again, off-...'I was too young to die.' Former Vice President Mike Pence said former President Trump should decide for himself whether to drop out of the 2024 presidential race if he is indicted for charges. Pence chose not to call on Trump to drop out if charges are filed against him while the former vice president was visiting New Hampshire, Politico reported Thursday. “Look, it’s a free country. Everybody can make their own decisions,” he said. Pence’s comments come as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg appears to be close to potentially be filing charges against Trump for hush-money payments that were made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the leadup to the 2016 presidential election. Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen paid Daniels in exchange for her silence about an affair she had with Trump. Trump later reimbursed Cohen for the payment, and the Trump Organization declared it to be a legal expense.
