PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix is making progress in complying with a court order to close a large homeless encampment known as “The Zone,” but it will take more time to clear, clean and keep people from setting up tents again in the area, a lawyer representing the city said at a trial Monday.Attorney Justin Pierce said during opening statements that portions of the encampment on the edge of downtown Phoenix have been cleared since a judge declared the area to be a public nuisance, but other blocks still need to be addressed. He said the process takes time, including making sure those who live there have somewhere else to go. The city is developing a space nearby with tents and temporary restroom facilities as an alternative, has increased the number of police officers working in the area and has nearly tripled its funding on confronting issues of homelessness, Pierce said. “We can’t simply wave a magic wand and have it all be gone,” Pierce said. “We have to go through a process.”The purpos...

Two aquarium shops in Southwest Miami-Dade reported that they’ve also been robbed by the same woman who was caught stealing a marmoset monkey on Friday at a different pet shop. After seeing her face on the news, the two businesses sent over to 7News their surveillance footage videos of her snatching expensive sealife.“It’s crazy, I don’t know how she did it,” said Robert Dusendang, an employee at Exotic Aquariums on 7399 Bird Road. The store reported that the crook took off with $3,000 worth of corals on June 27. “On camera, you can see her sticking her hand in the tanks and she puts them in a bag and then in that bag we believe she has like a tote with water in it and that’s where she carries the corals,” said Dusendang. About a mile away that same day, she hit Strictly Fish on 8373 Southwest 40th Street where video showed her reaching into tanks stealing more sea creatures for her collection. Rain moving out, temps go up

Editor’s Note: Tonight’s blog was written by meteorological intern Tyler Hughes.A period of mostly dry weather that lasted through the weekend for most of us came to an end today with soaking rains moving through the area. Check out some of these reports from across the Commonwealth since midnight: Westhampton saw over 5 inches of rainfall! These reports are as of 5:15pm and rainfall totals will likely continue to rise throughout the evening hours. This heavy rainfall isn’t a flooding concern in and around the Boston metro largely because the ground is dry. This is because the ground is already saturated by rain, like a sponge that’s already full of water. For this reason, a flood watch is in effect for these areas through tomorrow morning. It’s a good time to throw in the reminder to never drive through flooded roads – just a few inches of w...
